About
Just Curious Media is the brainchild of award-winning documentary producer and accomplished film festival founder Jason Connell. His passion for great stories & characters is only matched by his curiosity in the world. As his appetite for media consumption shifted to podcasts, he realized he could tell even more compelling stories faster, cheaper and not be beholden to conventional distribution models. The goal was simple, make great content and share it with audiences for free. In 2019 the plan was put into motion as he assembled a dynamic group of creators to help bring the vision to life.
Connell Creations (2000-2018). Produced 10 character driven multi-award-winning documentaries. Among these films, Holy Rollers: The True Story of Card Counting Christians, was featured on NPR’s This American Life as well as The Colbert Show and was distributed by Warner Bros. GLOW: The Story of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, premiered at Hot Docs Film Festival, won the Comic-Con Film Festival and had its broadcast premiere on MTV/LOGO. It was also the basis of GLOW, the popular original Netflix series.
United Film Festival (2002-2014). Created a cutting-edge annual film festival series in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Tulsa, New York & London. The festival established a rich tradition of screening exceptional feature films, documentaries, short films and select classic films with cast & crew in attendance. Many of these were honored by having their handprints cemented in front of the historic Vista Theatre in Los Angeles. Among these included legendary director John Landis (Animal House, An American Werewolf in London), famous actor Dabney Coleman (9 to 5, Tootise), well-known screenwriter Carl Gottlieb (Jaws, The Jerk), and the late iconic Academy Award winning cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond (The Deer Hunter, Close Encounters of the Third Kind).
